Q&A with Pat OBrien
Q: What is State of Disclosure about?
A: The book is about the modern human perspective of the Disclosure movement. We hear so much about the government, military, and media perspectives, but we rarely hear the stories of what has happened, or what would happen, if local citizens are witnesses to a crash event. How would the story be contained? Could it be contained? It also tells the story of those pushing for disclosure, including a new President who feels his own intelligence community is hiding something from him, but isn’t sure exactly what.
Q: This is your first novel. When did you start, and what inspired it?
A: This is my first fiction book, but I have been a writer for over 10 years. I began writing State of Disclosure last year, inspired by the Disclosure movement and the idea of writing about how the public would react to the revelation that we are not alone in the universe, and that the intelligence community has covered this up. As I wrote, I realized this book wasn’t going to quite get that far, so I have more writing to do. I was also inspired by the documentary in November, Age of Disclosure.
Q: Which characters did you most enjoy writing?
A: I really enjoyed writing Sheriff Donovan Parker, who is the first to discover the crash; President Alexander Peterson; and Erika Lindsay, a character introduced later who works for the President and helps uncover what is happening.
Q: What theme is at the heart of the book?
A: The truth belongs to everyone, not just a select few, no matter how difficult or valuable it is.
Q: Did real-life events shape the story?
A: Nothing that has directly impacted me, but I am inspired by stories that have become public thus far, and I hope we see more moving forward.
Q: Is there a question about the book you wish readers would ask?
A: Can this actually happen? Can an average person stumble upon a crash like this and break open a massive conspiracy? Yes, they can. And does the real answer to this secret belong to everyone, or is it too important, or too scary, to be revealed? It does belong to everyone, and it should be revealed.
Q: Do you have a favorite moment from the book?
A: Later in the book, President Peterson confronts those in his administration withholding information and pushes to see the crashed craft firsthand, where it is being stored. He succeeds, and the reveal is spectacular. There’s also a moment in the epilogue where Sheriff Parker and Erika bring one of the villains to justice.
Q: What was the biggest challenge in writing or publishing it?
A: Writing with a full-time-plus job, and writing about a topic that is both mainstream and not mainstream. By that I mean it’s not necessarily popular (some think the UAP/NHI topic isn’t even real, just drones or planes), while Hollywood runs full steam ahead. My initial title was actually Disclosure Day, but before that, a movie by Spielberg was announced, so I changed the title in November when the movie title dropped.
Q: What is next for you as a writer?
A: I plan to write a Part 2 that picks up very shortly after the end of Part 1 and leans more into the “ontological shock.”

AWESOME book!
The best I have read in a long time. It really keeps you engaged and wanting to turn the page. Pat does an excellent job at making it both fun fantasy, and grounded in reality. I would highly recommend it!

Pat OBrien is a native of Upstate New York who has worked in the political and governmental world for the past several years. He has written several books in the political and non-fiction genre. State of Disclosure is his first work of fiction, following his intrigue in the Disclosure movement and his belief that we should know the truth about what the government knows on whether we are alone or not.
