Q: What is your book about and what inspired you to write this book?
A: I always heard everyone say, “Language is best learned young.” It got me thinking, “Then why do we wait until high school to introduce SAT words?” Those are a part of the English language after all. I couldn’t find a satisfactory answer. So, I decided to write a kids book that includes 10 SAT words with enough supporting context to empower children to figure out the meaning on their own. No flash cards required!
Q: When did you start writing, and what made you decide to publish this book?
A: I’ve always enjoyed writing, but I also always told myself that I never wanted to put out a book unless I truly felt it had something no other book had.
When I couldn’t find any other kids books that taught SAT words in a natural, organic way, that was when I decided it was worth publishing.
Q: Which character was the most fun—or most challenging—to write, and why?
A: My daughter named Princess Lorraine. So, I really enjoyed being able to incorporate her creativity into the story!
Q: What themes or messages do you hope readers take away from your book?
A: I hope this book inspires readers to rethink commonly accepted societal norms. I hope this book sufficiently disproves the notion that SAT words have to wait until high school, and it gets people thinking about other “best practices” that should be revisited.
Q: Were there any real-life experiences that influenced your story or characters?
A: Princess Lorraine’s conviction (or maybe stubbornness is a better word) may have been loosely based off my daughter’s demeanor 😉
Q: What question do you wish readers would ask you about the book?
A: Question: Can adults learn some new words also?
Answer: Yes! A colleague of mine shared that she has incorporated some of the words she learned from this book into conversations with her clients.
Q: Do you have a favorite quote or moment from the book you’d like to share?
A: I like the image on the last page the best. You’ll have to pick up a copy to find out what it is!
Q: What was the biggest challenge in writing or publishing it?
A: The biggest challenge was making sure the SAT words were naturally woven into the story and didn’t feel forced.
Q: What’s next for you as a writer?
A: My goal is to write 25 books like this in total. Then, parents can purchase all 25 and teach their kids 250 SAT words before they graduate elementary school.
