Book Synopsis
HEROES SAVE THE WORLD. SHE WANTS TO CONQUER IT.
At five, Nashel burned down her home and walked away smiling. That’s when the Sunset Academy came for her, a stronghold where the gifted, the feared, and the dangerous learn to control their abilities—or die trying.
There, Nashel faces brutal Trials, a strict hierarchy, and a world where one mistake means death.
As rumours of war and a shifting Void—the deadly border between nations—grow louder, Nashel is sent on a mission that will force her to choose: will she become the Academy’s perfect soldier, or something far more dangerous?

Exclusive Author Q&A with K.S. Sanral
Q: What is your book about and what inspired you to write this book?
A: I wanted to write the story of a villain. They say “every villain is the hero of their own story,” but I didn’t want my MC to be one. She’s evil, and reading from her point of view doesn’t change that.
Q: When did you start writing, and what made you decide to publish this book?
A: When did I start writing in general? When I learnt how to write! When did I start writing this specific novel? Well, that’s a tricky question. I had the vague idea—more like a vibe—in 2008. I made several attempts to find the story behind the vibe, but didn’t until 2020. Life got in the way, as it often does, and I picked it up again in 2025.
Q: Which character was the most fun—or most challenging—to write, and why?
A: Nashel. She’s a psychopath and I’m not (I swear!), so it has been difficult to keep true to her nature. It was challenging not to give in to emotions she wouldn’t be able to feel, and it was fun to put her in different situations and see how she reacted.
Q: What themes or messages do you hope readers take away from your book?
A: Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Q: Were there any real-life experiences that influenced your story or characters?
A: Thankfully no!
Q: What question do you wish readers would ask you about the book? (Answer it too!)
A: If Nashel has feelings for Alistair. The answer is complicated. In a way she does, but she’s not capable of love the way you and I are.
Q: Do you have a favorite quote or moment from the book you’d like to share?
A: There is this scene where Nashel shows Alistair the power flowing all around them. It’s very intimate and I like how I pictured it in my head. I tried to draw it countless times, but I’m a writer, not an artist haha.
Q: What was the biggest challenge in writing or publishing it?
A: Marketing! I’m not a good seller and I’m not big on social media. Trying to spread the word and create content to promote this book has been really stressful! And I thought writing was difficult!
Q: What’s next for you as a writer?
A: I have other projects in store—a couple of romantic fantasies, a series. I am debating a sequel to The Two Suns, but I’m not sure I want it.
Why You Should Read The Two Suns
If you’ve ever been captivated by stories like The Hunger Games or Divergent but wished for something darker and more daring, The Two Suns is the book for you. Instead of watching a hero rise against oppression, readers follow Nashel, a young woman who embraces cruelty, destruction, and dominance.
This twist makes the book uniquely compelling. You’ll find yourself torn—repelled by Nashel’s choices, yet fascinated by her cunning and ambition. The world itself is richly built, filled with danger, political intrigue, and the looming threat of a fractured reality.
At its core, The Two Suns challenges us to reflect on the nature of power, corruption, and morality. Can we still enjoy a story when our guide is truly unredeemable? Sanral proves that the answer is yes.
