Q: What is your book about and what inspired you to write this book?
A: My first book in this series (The Sins of the Hybrid) featured a Ogre character named Grunt. My readers loved him and wanted more. I quickly realized that ‘ogre meets ogre’ is such a niche concept in writing, and I wanted to deliver just that.
Q: When did you start writing?
A: As a kid I always dreamed of being a movie director. I used to get lost in thought thinking up movie scenes in my head – scenes that I knew would never come to fruition. One day it dawned on me: what if I wrote out these stories – becoming my own movie director through books?
I am heavily driven by passion, and sometimes I feel like the only way to release this passion is through my writing. This book is a culmination of my own ideas and dreams of what a beautiful romance should be; and I feel like I left part of my soul somewhere between the lines of Tortured Heart.
Q: Which character was the most fun—or most challenging—to write, and why?
A: Grunt was the most difficult character to write, simply because he is such a layered individual. His character: the fierce protector, the guardian, the wounded hero, needed so much care and thought to make sure his layers were pealed apart, and not ripped open. He is at war with himself and will always put others before anything else.
Q: What themes or messages do you hope readers take away from your book?
A: Hell itself can’t stop true love, and the best kind of love is bought with blood and tears.
Q: Were there any real-life experiences that influenced your story or characters?
A: My book was partially inspired by events that happened to me years ago. I have always been drawn to the personification of the ‘perfect hero’: the person who would stop at nothing to keep their soulmate safe and secure.
Q: What question do you wish readers would ask you about the book?
A: I want readers to ask if this book can be read as a stand-a-lone book, and the answer is: yes. There are some spoilers from the first book, but I tried best I could to keep the book as spoiler free as possible. However, I would recommend reading the first book as well. The first book adds more backstory to Grunt and his journey.
Q: Do you have a favorite quote or moment from the book you’d like to share?
A: “A sob escaped her as he bent and pressed a kiss to her naked ring finger—soft, sacred.”
Q: What was the biggest challenge in writing or publishing it?
A: My biggest challenge was keeping this book the agonizing slow burn I was looking for. Soulmates that hold out before letting their emotions explode is the best kind of romance. Pure, passionate, and completely raw.
Q: What’s next for you as a writer?
A: I want to keep this series going. I’m currently working on book three: introducing new characters, and bringing back old ones. I’m super excited and can’t wait to give my readers more.
