Reyom and his friends call Aura’ah Academy home — a crumbling sanctuary under the banyan tree, filled with laughter, loyalty, and the kind of magic that doesn’t need wands. But when billionaire Wolfe Vale sets his sights on demolishing the school and a strange “psychic silence” begins freezing adults mid-thought, the children discover that their world is unraveling faster than anyone dares believe.

Guided by their mysterious coach, Drona — whose quiet rituals and cryptic stories hide truths about an ancient glyph carved into the Iron Door — the Aura’ah Squad must uncover the link between the silence, the symbol “ஃ”, and the academy’s forgotten secret.

As the whispers grow louder and the glyph glows red, they’ll learn that courage isn’t loud… it listens.

A haunting, heart-stirring blend of mystery, magic, and defiance — Aura’ah Academy is a story about belonging, resilience, and the fight to protect what makes us human.

Q&A with Aditya Elango

Q: What is your book about and what inspired you to write this book?

A: My book Aura’ah Academy: Whispers of the Iron Door is a young adult speculative thriller set in a mysterious academy where silence has power, teamwork is survival, and ancient glyphs hold the key to a hidden war. It follows a group of misfit students who begin to realize their school isn’t what it seems—and that they might be humanity’s last line of defense against forces trying to erase memory itself.

The story was born from two parts of my life: my years as a professional badminton player and my current journey as a mentor and coach to hundreds of young athletes, combined with my lifelong fascination for mystery and mythology. Competing internationally taught me what resilience, pressure, and teamwork truly mean—and I wanted to channel that same intensity into a fictional world. The academy became a metaphor for the inner battles we all face: doubt, discipline, belonging, and belief.

As a coach, I’ve seen both sides of ambition—how some kids crave to be spoon-fed answers, while true champions are curious, hungry, and willing to push beyond their comfort zone. I wanted to bring that dynamic to life through a story that feels thrilling, mysterious, and deeply human.

Ultimately, Aura’ah Academy is a story about courage—the kind that doesn’t come from strength, but from silence, unity, and choice. It’s both a personal story and a lifelong dream: to merge my sporting past with my creative side and to write something that reminds readers—especially teens—that even the smallest act of resilience can change everything.

Q: When did you start writing, and what made you decide to publish this book?

A: I always wanted to write a self-help book—a kind of manual for aspiring champions—where I could share the lessons I learned from my journey in sports with teenagers and young dreamers. But I never really sat down to do it. I must credit my wife for nudging me to start.

One day, I simply opened my laptop and began typing. I didn’t have an outline or a plan—just a feeling. And somehow, the story poured out of me. It was as if the universe handed me this tale, and I was merely its messenger. The experience was surreal—emotional, energizing, and strangely familiar, like I was being told a story I already knew in my heart.

I’m a former international badminton player, ranked 80th in the world in men’s singles in 2011—the first player from my region to represent India and break into the world’s top 100. That journey shaped my values: discipline, focus, and resilience. And those same values now live through the characters of Aura’ah Academy. Writing this book felt like merging two worlds—my athletic past and my creative present—into one story about courage, mentorship, and the power of self-belief.

Q: Which character was the most fun—or most challenging—to write, and why?

A: The most challenging character to write was Alan—a father battling his own grief, struggling to express love for his son while carrying the weight of secrets he’s desperate to uncover. He’s torn between duty and emotion. Writing him was both fascinating and difficult because he represents so many parents I’ve seen—and at times, parts of myself.

As a father to a six-year-old, I often reflect on how love sometimes hides behind restraint, protection, or fear of failure. Alan’s journey became a mirror for that—of a man learning that strength isn’t about control, but about vulnerability. He was the hardest to write, but also the most rewarding, because he reminded me that even heroes and parents are still learning how to love.

Q: What themes or messages do you hope readers take away from your book?

A: At its core, Aura’ah Academy is about resilience—the quiet kind that grows when the world goes silent. I hope readers, especially young ones, realize that strength isn’t always loud or obvious. Sometimes it’s found in patience, unity, and the courage to keep showing up even when no one’s watching.

The story also explores belonging, mentorship, and the power of curiosity. In a world that rewards shortcuts, I wanted to remind readers that growth comes from asking questions, failing forward, and daring to try again.

Ultimately, the message is simple but powerful: you don’t need to be extraordinary to do something extraordinary. Courage, empathy, and persistence can turn ordinary people into quiet heroes.

Q: Were there any real-life experiences that influenced your story or characters?

A: Absolutely. My journey as a badminton player deeply influenced Aura’ah Academy. Badminton was never popular in my region—players from my area were often seen as underdogs or “punching bags” at the national level. In many ways, I was a self-made champion. I had to seek out mentors, create my own opportunities, and build resilience the hard way. Mentorship wasn’t something easily available; I had to go find it, and that search shaped who I became.

That struggle—and the hunger to learn—became the heartbeat of my story. The students of Aura’ah Academy reflect that same spirit: they fail, they seek, they rise. Today’s generation often looks for easy answers, but I believe true champions are the ones who stay curious and persistent. Through my storytelling, I hope to reignite that mindset—to remind young readers that guidance is earned through effort, and that resilience begins with curiosity.

Q: What question do you wish readers would ask you about the book?

A: I wish readers would ask me, “Why is silence such a big theme in the story.

Because silence, to me, isn’t emptiness—it’s potential. In sports, in life, and even in creativity, silence is where growth happens. It’s the pause before a breakthrough, the breath before the leap. In Aura’ah Academy, silence represents awareness, focus, and inner strength—the qualities that make true champions.

We live in a world that’s constantly noisy and demanding. But sometimes, the greatest answers come when we learn to listen—to ourselves, to others, and to what’s unspoken. That’s what I hope readers take away: that silence isn’t weakness—it’s where courage is born.

Q: Do you have a favorite quote or moment from the book you’d like to share?

A: There’s a line that always stays with me:
“Patience will save the world—or watch it burn.”

To me, that line captures the soul of Aura’ah Academy. As someone who’s lived through the highs and lows of competitive sport, I’ve learned that patience is one of the hardest forms of strength. It’s what separates those who break from those who breakthrough.

Q: What was the biggest challenge in writing or publishing it?

A: Writing came naturally to me—the story flowed from a very personal place. The real challenge was everything that came after: getting the book into the hands of the right readers.

Today, information about publishing is just a few clicks away, but discoverability remains the hardest part. The online world is crowded, and attention spans are short. I quickly realized that publishing a book is only half the journey—the other half is learning how to market it, connect with readers, and build a community around it.

That’s where my entrepreneurial side comes in. I’ve treated this book not just as a creative project but as a mission—to reach millions of young readers and remind them that resilience still matters. The process has been humbling, but also incredibly rewarding.

Q: What’s next for you as a writer?

A: The Aura’ah Academy journey is only just beginning. Book 1: Whispers of the Iron Door is the opening chapter of a much larger saga. I’m currently working on Book 2 and Book 3, both set to release together in April 2026.

Book 2 unfolds as an espionage-style tournament that tests the squad’s unity and forces readers to question the very idea of good versus evil. Book 3 then expands into a mind-bending, world-saving finale that challenges the foundations of our society and what it truly means to be human.

Beyond the series, I also plan to write a non-fiction book for young athletes and dreamers—a modern manual for champions that distills everything I’ve learned from my journey as an athlete, mentor, and storyteller.

My mission as a writer is to keep building worlds—both fictional and real—that ignite curiosity, courage, and purpose.
